Dear All
There are 2 postdoc positions in the BNL Medium energy group.
For details please see below.
If there are any questions related to these positions, please sent an
email to Elke Aschenauer (elke at bnl.gov <mailto:elke at bnl.gov>)
Please forward this email to anybody who could be interested in the
positions.
Thanks
Elke
*The first one:*
The Medium Energy Group at BNL’s Physics department has an opening for a
Postdoctoral Research Associate. The selected candidate is
expected to analyze polarized pp and p(d)A data to constrain the nuclear
parton distributions and especially study observables in di-hadron
production sensitive to gluon saturation accessible at RHIC at forward
rapidities.
The selected candidate will in collaboration with the members of the BNL
Medium Energy group and members of the STAR collaboration analyze STAR
data.
The work will include to participate in the calibration of the STAR
detector systems essential of the analysis. The selected candidate is
expected to present the
results at STAR meetings, workshops and conferences after they have been
made preliminary as well as publish the results.

*The 2nd one:*
The Medium Energy Group at BNL’s Physics department has an opening for a
Postdoctoral Research Associate. The selected candidate is expected to
develop in
collaboration with the RHIC Polarimeter group a concept how to measure
the absolute polarization of high energy (30-166 GeV) polarized 3He++
beams, the lifetime of the
polarization, and the bunch polarization profile in transverse and
longitudinal direction with both high statistical precision and low
systematic uncertainty at high collision frequencies.
Furthermore, the requirements for the detectors and the overall
polarimeter setup should be defined.
The selected candidate will develop a full simulation of the absolute
and relative polarimeters needed to measure polarization of He-3 beams
at high collision frequencies.
The data of the existing data from the RHIC polarimeters will be used to
verify the simulations. The selected candidate is expected to present
the results at meetings, reviews
and document and publish the results.
