[Dsg-rich] Testing of RICH electronics

Hi Marc,

That's correct. Pulse generator and laser tests will not be done in a clean room.
Front-end electronics together with MAPMTs will be installed into the electronics panel completely tested.

When everything will reassembled and connected to the HV, LV and computer we will continue to test
our detector in the clean room. There are several tests that can be done without outer generator and light source.
We have internal generator in our front-end and can test every pixel of our front-end in situ.

There will be two kind of tests: with and without HV on.
At the end of the story we want to arrange trigger for cosmic muons and detect Cherenkov ring
in the RICH.

Regards,
Valery

Hi Valery,

As I understand it pulse generator and laser testing will not be done in the clean room. Could you write a procedure for the test which will be done in the clean room. It doesn't have to be anything other than...

1. Turn on HV

2. Turn on LV

.....

N. Turn off in reverse order.

That way we can evaluate the hazards. I will add this to the overall installation and testing procedure.

Thanks,

Marc

Marc,

The front-end electronics test with generator will be done in the F-wing. We will not use HV for this kind of the test.
The assembled with MAPMTs test will be done in the High Bay area where our laser stand is located.
We have all safety documents for this test. We need TOSP only for the clean room tests.

Valery

Valery,

During the testing I am assuming during pulse testing LV will be on and HV will not be used? As far as the laser testing, where will this happen and can you describe the test set up and give the specification of the laser. I'm trying to identify the hazards.

Thanks

Marc

Hi Marc,

All front-end boards will be extensively tested prior to the installation into the detector.
There are 3 front-end boards:
1. FPGA board
2. ASIC board
3. Adapter board
All of them will be tested first with the generator input pulse. We will send and detect the signal from each out of 25K channels.
At the end we will take the calibration data using our laser test. During this test we will attach MAPMTs
to the front-end.

At the same time we will install the tested boards to the electronics panel. I hope the electronics panel will be completely equipped in May. We plan to take cosmic data after that. For this test the electronics panel will be rotated to the horizontal position.

The HV and LV will be provided to the electronics and PMTs using the standard RICH CAEN HV and LV crate.
MAPMTs and front-end will be located in the completely isolated volume. So I don't see any problems with safety.
We plan to test cooling system after the competition the assembly of the electronics board.

Hope it helps,
Regards,
Valery

Hi Valery,

I need your procedure for testing the electronics. Can you tell me what
testing you want to do to the electronics boards prior to installing
them in the detector. Additionally, how do you plan to provide power to
the boards, will any cooling be necessary?

Thanks,
