[Dsg-rich] Question regarding using Loctite in EEL 124 cleanroom

Hello Mike,

Thank you Tyler. I can add some information.

We shipped two different adhesive systems to Jlab. One is the West System G/Flex used in previous assemblies of the LTCC windows for Hall B. The exact nature of the use of this product is best posed to David Anderson (CC’d). Our work at Jlab next week will be similar to that he used with the Hall B LTCC detectors. The second adhesive system is the Loctite H8100 that likely arrived at Jlab in a 5 gallon bucket. I shipped a bunch of items with the Loctite and they (hopefully) are all in the 5 gallon bucket. The Loctite I shipped is a (qty=5)two stage cartridge (1.7OZ each). The applicator gun can/will be used with a mixing nozzle to minimize hand mixing. The H8100 will be used to glue approx. 12 pieces of aluminum together. Each joint is about 3sqin. I anticipate the two of us completing the glue work in one day. I have attached info on the Loctite H8100. I believe Tyler has the PPE covered.

We should be on site Monday 5/15 about noon.

Kevin

Hello Mike,

Kevin Bailey, our contact for this task would be able to answer your questions regarding the procedure and work time where the Loctite will be used. He is included in this email. The nearest eyewash station is in the hallway near the restrooms in the EEL building. However, there is a sign that says the eyewash station is inoperable and to use the drench hose immediately next to it instead. We plan on using nitrile gloves and safety glasses. We will already have clothes covering on as the work will be taking place in the clean room.

Kevin,

Please see Mike's email below. Would you be able to answer any of the procedure questions?

Best regards,

Tyler

Tyler can you describe the process so we can better understand it. How is it to be applied? How long is the anticipated work time with the loctite? How many people will be using it? Is it going to be taken directly from the 5 gallon bucket? Where is the nearest eyewash? What is the planned personal protective equipment to be used?

thanks
Mike

Hello Jennifer and Mike,

We plan to use Loctite we received from collaborators on Monday May 15 for the assembly of the RICH detector. The work requiring Loctite will be done in the EEL 124 clean room.

Since the clean room recirculates the air inside of it, are there any hazards we should be aware of or precautions we should take regarding outgassing of the Loctite? Please let us know.

Attached is the SDS of the Loctite compound that we will use.

Best regards,
