[Dsg-rich] [New Logentry] RICH compressor pressure decrease investigation

Hello,

Brian and I were able to check the run-time counters and recommended service counters for the compressor this morning.

Attached is a photo of the compressor's display for the service counter. The meaning of the service counter isn't very clear, but the red seems to indicate that it is due for service. As Amrit stated, Hall B will have to address getting the compressor serviced.

For the runtime counters the table below summarizes the counter values.

Item Description Count
Running Hours Hours compressor has been running 9000
Running Hours Element 1 Hours Element 1 has ran 8755
Running Hours Element 2 Hours Element 2 has ran 8755
Starts Element 1 Number of times Element 1 started 7242
Starts Element 2 Number of times Element 2 started 7230
Shutdowns Element 1 Number of Times Element 1 shutdown 2
Shutdowns Element 2 Number of times Element 2 shutdown 3
Load Relay** Number of times over-current motor protection relay has tripped. 18
Dryer Starts Number of times the dryer started 12
Fan Starts Number of times the fan started 131
Module Hours Total number of hours the compressor has had power (not necessarily running) 14913

I couldn't find exactly what the "load relay" counter meant, but the description in the table is the closest thing I could find in the manual. If the compressor is switching itself off due to over-current, it obviously can re-enable itself and RICH hasn't had any trouble with lost airflow.

Best regards,
Tyler

come va sandro!
nice to hear from you.
hmm! straight to the point.

copy of tyler's e-mail is attached below.
these issues have to be addressed by hallb.
perhaps marco/marco/valery can bring these issues up with hallB engineering.

Hello,

During today's DSG weekly meeting, we discussed the problem with the RICH air pressure and compressor.

The following conclusions and recommendations were discussed:

1.) For the past few months, there has been a correlation between ambient air pressure and RICH pressure and airflows. However, this correlation does not appear to be significant since the tank pressure and airflow only changes slightly with ambient pressure.

2.) The filter at the compressor's output should be changed/drained by Hall B since its pressure drop gauge is in the red and if the filter is saturated, it may be preventing the compressor from outputting at its full capacity. The compressor will need to be powered off and the entire air-cooling system depressurized to do this.

3.) The PT used for alarms and interlocks should be replaced. Again, the compressor will need to be powered off and the entire air-cooling system depressurized to do this.

4.) It would be good to determine what routine maintenance the compressor should undergo. If any is needed, Hall B would have to arrange this with Atlas Copco.

5.) The second compressor should be powered.

Best regards,
Tyler

Hi all,
The compressor has been working continously for a couple of years, have you ever serviced it?
If not plan a service as soon as possible, maybe a clean filter or something else is needed.
Looking at the attached plots it seems it is working at 50% of its setpoint pressure and never stops, it sounds like there is a loss of efficiency in the device.
Sorry for my considerations
Have a good day
Sandro

Hi Brian,
I also noticed that the compressor changed the behavior during the last year.
Take a look to the attached plots. In April 2018 the frequency of oscillations is different from October 2018. The time range is 8 hours, one shift.
In April 2019 the compressor is working all the time.
Regards,
Valery
