Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting July 10, 2012
1)	Thia Keppel
a)	News from this morning?s senior staff meeting
i)	There is a new 15 page memo from DOE re travel. Be 
prepared to plan well in advance for any travel, as there 
is likely to be an increase in required documentation that 
may slow the process.
ii)	Foreign MOU?s are now on DOE?s radar. We will be going 
over to a CRADA (Cooperative Research and Development 
Agreement) mechanism.
iii)	There was a strategic planning retreat last week
(1)	12 GeV got very positive reviews and is the 
highest priority
(2)	Møller and SOLID are in the ?foreground?
(3)	EIC was discussed (there?s a paper in the archive 
with the Physics arguments
(4)	LDRD?s will be coming
(5)	FEL was discussed (probably not going to be the 
big next generation light source, looking at smaller 
projects)
(6)	Larry Cardman adds that the retreat was a follow 
on to the town meetings etc. call for LOI?s for LDRD?s 
went out earlier this year.
b)	Thia is trying to meet with everyone individually. If she 
hasn?t gotten to you yet, just make an appointment on her 
calendar.
2)	Ed Folts
a)	Cryogenics upgrades are making progress
b)	Upside down girder was completed this morning. Will stand it 
up this afternoon.
c)	Ready to weld together parts for the Møller beamline
3)	Robin Wines
a)	12 GeV Upgrade:
i)	Compton:
(1)	Continuing with synchrotron radiation field plates
(2)	All other parts are here
ii)	Møller:
(1)	Waiting for parts (expected at the end of June, 
the vendor now says end of July)
(2)	Finishing assembly and installation drawings
b)	SBS:
i)	Layouts showing interferences are done. Bogdan has 
distributed them to collaborators for comments
ii)	Working on TOSCA calculation of SBS and BigBite 
together
iii)	Next effort will be on the support system for the 
magnets
c)	APEX/PREXII: evaluating new TOSCA model from Bogdan
d)	SOLID: Whit working on structural FEA
e)	A1n: Al working on options for using transversity equipment 
for A1n
f)	All are training on the new CAD system
4)	John LeRose
a)	SBS: looking at budgetary and other impacts of proposed 
change in the coordinate detector plan
b)	Doing optics tests on TOSCA field maps for APEX/PREXII
5)	Ole Hansen
a)	Counting House Refurbishment, plan to move counting house 
computers to the Hall. Have three weeks to set this up. 
Expect computers to be offline for some time during the move
b)	ADAQL3 has died (power supply failed, it was our oldest 
machine)
i)	Have new machines
ii)	Disks are fine and will be back up later today
c)	Expects to work on SOLID tracking simulations over the next 
few weeks
d)	C++ analyzer upgrades with Hall C going well. Need to do 
some parallelization work.
6)	Sirish Nanda
a)	Compton upgrade:
i)	Beamline is torn  down
ii)	Detector and laser hut are next
iii)	Working with the present cavity
iv)	Discusses future plans
7)	Alexandre Camsonne
a)	DVCS work
b)	Electron Detector work
c)	TEDF FASTBUS setup
8)	Kalyan Allada
a)	Attending the GEANT4 tutorial
b)	Working on SOLID simulations
9)	Jixie Zhang is working on g2p optics
10)	Javier Gomez
a)	SOLID work
b)	LSD schedule oversight
11)	Doug Higinbotham
a)	Attended meeting re the counting house refurbishment
i)	Bids are back and have been reviewed
ii)	No racks will be moved or touched
iii)	Has long list of things to be changed
(1)	Fix the women?s room on the 2nd floor
(2)	Replacing 2nd floor windows
(3)	AC replacement on 1st floor
(4)	Dosimeter badges will move (location not final)
b)	Asks if anyone knows where Guy Ron?s function generator is? 
Alex has it.
c)	Working on a paper
d)	Reviewing a paper
12)	Bogdan Wojtsekhowski
a)	Gas Cherenkov developments:
i)	Collaboration setup (JLab, W&M, UNC)
ii)	Conceptual design completed
iii)	Ready to start working with designers
iv)	W&M will contribute to construction costs
v)	There was some discussion regarding whether the Cerenkov 
was a part of the proposed SBS experiment(s). It is 
explicitly not part of the SBS PMP.
b)	Preparing replacement amplifier/discriminator cards for 
VDC?s
c)	Student is developing a faster readout scheme for FASTBUS
