Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting July 17, 2012
1) Doug Higinbotham
a) Safety Incident last week, a vacuum system exploded. The
incident is being investigated. There was no OSP or TOSP in
effect for that piece of equipment. Make sure you have your
work documents in order or stop work.
b) Deadline to sign up for voluntary separation is looming.
c) The lab is working on budgets out to 2015 (assuming flat
funding)
d) Stephanie is compiling list of conferences we plan to attend
in 2013. Get your information to her before Thursday (7/19).
e) NSAC subcommittee studying implementation of the Long Range
Plan will meet in early September
f) We?re trying to get a good number for the SOLID project
costs
2) Robin Wines
a) New system coming on-line for signing off on documents
i) It will all be done electronically
ii) You will receive an e-mail directing you to a website
where you can sign off on drawings etc. (presumably you
will have already seen them and gone over needed
modifications with the designer beforehand)
b) Compton:
i) Drawings are done for the field plates and vacuum system
ii) Waiting on magnetic studies
iii) Estimate 6 weeks to get the parts
iv) Joyce is looking at the laser hut walls
c) Møller, finishing documentation on assembly and installation
drawings
d) If you notice that anything has changed in the Hall
(installation modifications or whatever) please let Robin
and Co. know. Doesn?t have to be detailed, just raise a
flag.
e) Whit has completed the FEA analysis of SOLID
f) SBS:
i) Working on various configurations and interference
mitigation (magnet placement etc.)
ii) TOSCA calculations of SBS and BigBite in the same model
g) Working on DVCS, Gnp, and A1n cell design
h) Septum: Bogdan has proposed a new coil. It will need new
supports, working on the physical design.
3) Jessie Butler
a) Setting up Hall B things in the Hall
4) Chas Hightower is happy!
5) John LeRose
a) Trying to organize our ideas re the new coordinate detector
for SBS. Preparing a working document outline the current
level of understanding of what?s involved.
6) Sirish Nanda
a) Re the laser hut sidewalls, there are vacuum chamber issues.
Will work on plans with Robin.
7) Kalyan Allada is working on GEANT4 simulations for SOLID
8) Jixie Zhang is working on Radiative corrections for polarized
target and beam.
9) Ole Hansen
a) Consolidating large sets of data on the Counting House
Computers. Should be transparent to the users
b) Planning to decommission ADAQL10 (no information will be
lost)
c) Will move Counting House Computers to the Hall in the next
10 days or so. Be prepared for downtime.
10) Bogdan Wojtsekhowski
a) Introduces new collaborators from Catania (Vincenzo Bellini
et al.)
i) Starting a new proposal
ii) Have been working on GEM assembly
iii) Adding Hadron Calorimeter to their interests
iv) Also analyzing data from Mainz
b) Student reports on summer work.

(a) Repair by gluing new glass plate on each tube.
(b) Shows setup (glue 20/day)
(4) Sows test setup and results
iii) Matt Kriete reports on SciFi detector for APEX
(1) Explains purpose
(2) Shows pictures of the detector
(3) Gives details of gluing fibers
c) More student talks on summer work next week.
