Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting May 15, 2012
1) Run Report: Hovhannes Baghdasaryan
a) See link for full report
b) Reviews events of the past week
i) Friday-Sunday were great days
ii) Monday went to 3.3 GeV
iii) Tuesday had problems
(1) Accelerator problems
(2) NMR tune problems
(3) Septum power supply fuses blown
iv) All back in order now
2) Doug Higinbotham
a) Reminds all that they must retake SAF100 if you haven?t
already retaken it (it?s on the web). Do it before the end
of May or you?ll have problems.
b) S&T review last week went well. We got complimentary
feedback.
c) PAC 39 TAC is meeting coincident with this meeting
d) An independent group is reviewing the most challenging
proposals
e) For Hall A there are 4 proposals (CREX, JPsi, GEn, SOLID
(SIDIS)
3) Jack Segal
a) Re running high current (1050 Amps) on the left septum:
i) Temperature rise is consistent with calculations (expect
exit water at 150 degrees F)
ii) Fuse problem, suspect it was just an old fuse. Now have
three new fuses.
iii) Power supply seems OK
iv) Hoses look OK
v) Nevertheless, recommends leaving it till last and doing it
during the day so he can monitor things.
4) Robin Wines
a) 12 GeV
i) Compton parts are coming in
ii) Møller:
(1) Finished adjuster assembly for the detector
enclosure
(2) Working on doors and beam pipe
b) Working on APEX/PREXII
c) SBS:
i) Have all configurations in the system
ii) TOSCA calculations on the magnet
d) Need some information on the BigBite detectors
5) Alexandre Camsonne
a) Working on MRPC tests
6) Ole Hansen
a) Preparing for the software review
i) In general looks pretty good
ii) Need some software management structure
iii) How does SBS fit in?
7) Kalyan Allada
a) Made presentation at the S&T review about the Transversity
experiment
b) Re g2p and running with the local dump, getting very high
rates in the 3rd arm such that it isn?t really useable.
8) Bogdan Wojtsekhowski
a) Doing septum calculations for APEX
i) Trying to reconcile APEX and PREX needs
ii) Thinks it can be done with two different coil
configurations. One for low energy (1-2 pass) running and
another for high energy (3-4 pass)
b) Discusses some Physics from our form factor data
i) By combining proton and neutron data you can de-convolute
up and down quarks
ii) Ultimately ties it all to di-quarks
9) John LeRose
a) Hypernuclear collaboration meeting last week
i) Forming a combined collaboration between the Hall A and
Hall C groups, the Hyper-Hypernuclear Collaboration
ii) Met with Mont and Bob Mc.
(1) Got good feedback
iii) Follow up to the LOI will be the submission of a
proposal for a Hypernuclear program using a combination of
equipment from the two halls
b) Last week we signed the SBS PMP for shipment to DOE
10) Chas Hightower reminds all that they must retake SAF100 if
you haven?t already retaken it (it?s on the web). Do it before
the end of May or you?ll have problems.
11) Doug Higinbotham announces there will be an end of run party
on Thursday (5/17) starting at 15:00 in the CEBAF Center Atrium
