Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting April 9, 2013
1) Thia Keppel
a) From the senior staff meeting
i) There is NO NEWS re the budget.
(1) May be here by the 15th
(2) Stay in zero spending mode (except for dire work
stoppage things)
(3) Anticipate getting a month by month allocation
ii) Get all space requests to Walt (through Thia)
iii) There are ongoing discussions re fire safety reviews.
(Hall A?s is likely to happen in September)
iv) DOE comparative review is scheduled for June 10-15
(1) May 2010 through May 2013 being reviewed
(2) Will not be done Hall by Hall
(3) E-mail coming with request for information to
include:
(a) All invited talks
(i) includes contributed
(ii) NOT local collaboration meeting or Hall A
meeting talks
(iii) Colloquia and seminars don?t count, but
include them if they were significant
(b) Conference organization work
(c) All graduate students here for 3 months or more
from Fall 2008 ? Spring 2013 (and where they are now
if you know)
(d) More?
(4) All needed this week
v) Bill Vulcan is here training people on power supplies
before he moves to N. Carolina
b) Hall A CC elections are going on. Web link makes it very
easy. If you didn?t get an e-mail with your link contact
Wouter Deconinck (atwdeconinck at wm.edu).
c) PAC40: the Technical Advisory Committee is now just the
whole lab, not just the Halls.
d) No meeting next week
e) Walt says the Counting House 1st floor will be ready in May
2) Robin Wines
a) Has questions re REQS
i) SBS just push through
ii) Others let sit till next week
b) 12 GeV:
i) Received beam line optics layout from Yves. We will
henceforward keep the model in our system
ii) Compton support continues
c) DVCS/GMp: 2 items, extension flange and supports for the
lead are ready to go
d) SBS:
i) All agreed on cutout of the magnet iron
ii) Looking at floor plates
iii) Working on counter weight support system
e) APEX:
i) Have the magnet in the layout
ii) Looking into water connections and supports
f) Polarized 3He target: waiting for information on shielding
and pumping cell
g) SOLID: doing structure and load analysis for the Detector
Hut
h) CREX: looking at septum water requirements
i) MARATHON: Looking at the exhaust stack
3) Ed Folts
a) Re-cabling at the pivot
b) Reworking the beam line
c) Fabricating vacuum systems for the magnets
d) Working on DC power upgrade
4) Bert Manzlak
a) If you have any urgent PPE or safety equipment needs see
Bert or Susan for release of funds
5) Thia Keppel reviews slide showing start-up beam requirements
for various Hall A systems
