Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting October 8, 2013
1) Thia Keppel
a) From the senior staff meeting:
i) No news on the budget
ii) Re the October 18 nominal run out of money date:
(1) Planning activities are underway
(2) What will require on-site personnel if we shut
down?
iii) 12 GeV may actually have less than three weeks, they?re
working on it
iv) No real fixed plans yet
v) The Lab is working on a timeline with decision points
vi) TEDF dedication has been canceled
vii) QCD Frontiers workshop and the DNP meeting are up in
the air
viii) DON?T SPEND (all expenditures must be approved by
Rolf, through Thia)
ix) DON?T TRAVEL
b) JSA board is meeting today
c) Performance appraisals have been actuated (do your self-
assessment)
d) Finished work planning and controls task. There?s still a
90-minute meeting with some supervisors in the works
e) SBS review is scheduled for November 4-5 (iterating on the
charge)
f) Patrizia says the tentative date for the Readiness Review is
December 9-10
g) Please review your section of the OPS manual (add a safety
checklist where needed)
h) New safety walkthrough is coming together (John and Javier
went through the Hall and Counting House and started filling
out the ?map?)
i) n.b. No shorts in the Hall
j) Patrizia says a new restructured template for the ESAD is
being set up
k) GMp collaboration met last Friday (10/4)
2) Robin Wines
a) SBS:
i) Coil bids are due on Monday (10/14) expect at least 4
vendors)
ii) Steel modification drawings are in review. Hope to go
to procurement next week.
iii) Working on the magnet assembly drawings and process
iv) Working on the support structure (expect an internal
review of the support structure before the end of the
month)
b) Compton work continues
c) Working on detectors (mainly Cherenkovs)
d) Doing a cost analysis for the Møller experiment
e) Having an internal meeting on the Møller magnet tomorrow
(10/9)
f) Monday (10/14) the Møller Magnet Advisory Committee meets
3) Ed Folts
a) Half the crew is working on the Hall D cleanroom this week
b) Cryo work continues
c) Doing final assembly of the Compton beamline
4) Charles Hightower
a) Comments on recent accident with LCW filter not properly
tightened and steps to prevent future occurrences
5) John LeRose gives talk on HRS Optics and Calibrations
