Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting October 15, 2013
1) Steve Smith reports on safety culture survey results:

2) Thia Keppel
a) From the senior staff meeting:
i) Reads direct quote from Rolf
ii) Lab can run till October 31, but the Office of Science
can only remain open till October 25. Leaving the
question, can the lab run ?unsupervised??
iii) QCD Frontiers Workshop has been moved to CNU
iv) DNP meeting will go on, but JLab tours are canceled
v) Next PAC will be dedicated to setting priorities only. No
new proposals except for exceptional cases
vi) ?Essential? personnel will get 2 days to prepare for
shutdown
vii) Comparative Research Review results were very good for
JLab, highest overall
viii) Performance appraisal self-assessments should be
done
ix) Meeting last week re injector test facility decided to
focus on parity quality beam tests and HD-ice
x) Beam to the Hall:
(1) Hall A internal readiness review is December 9-10
(Doug gives document status)
(2) Another external review in January re Accelerator
readiness will review the process whereby we declare
the Hall ready to go
b) Meeting planned next week (Thia, Javier, Arne, Keith, etc.)
to discuss beam dump capabilities for spring running.
c) Get your required travel through December to Stephanie
3) Robin Wines
a) 12 GeV:
i) Still waiting on raster tube coating
ii) GMp/DVCS:
(1) Machine shop will do some work originally planned
to send out
(2) Questions re sieve slits
b) SBS:
i) Coil bids are in (4 of them)
ii) Steel modification drawings are almost done (should be
to procurement by the end of the week)
iii) Support structure, preparing for internal engineering
review
iv) Working on magnet assembly with associated hardware and
Cherenkov designs
c) CAD: switching systems put off till February
4) Ed Folts
a) Making good progress on Compton. Vacuum should be completed
by the end of the week
b) Good progress on cryo controls
c) Documentation/ Documentation/Documentation
d) Finishing up the raster shield hut
5) Bert Manzlak
a) Hall D 1st Aid injury: while cabling the barrel calorimeter a
worker moved a ladder and then didn?t look up before
ascending. Hit his head on some unistrut. He correctly went
to health services etc. Lesson is pay attention to changing
circumstances.
6) Alexandre Camsonne gives a talk on Intel Linux VME CPU in
Hall A
