Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: March 13, 2018

1. Thia Keppel
   a. Senior Staff
     i. 5/19 Open House kickoff meeting this week – will know planning better after that
     ii. TRC meetings to start (for promotions!)
        1. Will have raises and promotions this year
     iii. VSP – this Thursday – people will find out if approved or not
        1. Leave 4/1
        2. 29 applications, nut not all will be approved
     iv. Property
        1. Jack still outstanding, also Jessie
     v. EIC “Center” about to go online (consolidation of activities + 1 year fellowship (New Post Doc or 
              student, ½ time with research plan, 3 awards)
     vi. Budget – still hoping for Omnibus bill by 3/23 (but, we have ~2 weeks padding)
        1. Some large procurements on hold
     vii. Send DOE Computing Plan with Sci.Comp + Physics….need more cores! DOE suggested a review, use regular 
              software & computing?
     viii. Transformer…..best guess is old isolation went bad, used to be checked annually, haven’t checked in 
              3 years – will start doing this!
        1. New transformers are ordered, one here Sunday & installed, testing today
        2. Next one coming
        3. Expect CHL this weekend
        4. Current CHL1 4K, CHL2 2K
        5. 3/21 beam restoration start (best guess) ~1 week?
        6. 18 days beyond restore (only 18!) Replaces what was on schedule, no extension
        7. 4/16 a UIM deadline
        8. Also ESR work
        9. April more expensive than March
        10. Physics to look at priorities
     ix. ESR
        1. A & C recovered now
        2. Test seeing how fast we can fill just from CHL
        3. Will try to fill B
        4. Monday back with CHL
        5. Tuesday or Wednesday targets
     x. Foreign visitor visas
        1. More about how we mentor
        2. F1 says where they work
        3. Universities can get audited
        4. Students from US universities turned down, should be fixed
        5. Can’t pay their reg fees with visa out of order
        6. There’s a new note on the web page for them!
  b. Hall A 
     i. Ar(e,e’p) paper up! – colloquium to come at lab
     ii. MOLLER further development meetings

2. Robin Wines
   a. SBS
     i. Continue in ECal back frame and assembly details
     ii. Counterweight blocks picked up by vendor
   b. APEX
     i. Corrector coils have been wound at vendor facility
     ii. Continue on septum support
   c. PREX
     i. Continue on septum support and shielding support
     ii. Completed drawing to purchase bogie adapter plate for Jack

3. Jessie Butler
   a. Spent majority of the week recovering the Hall cryogenics after the CHL/ESR crash
   b. Shipped out the SBS counterweight steel for sandblasting
   c. Added more shielding around the bogie motor controllers
   d. Worked on raster air conditioning
   e. The AC that is used to cool the raster safe was icing up and shutting off. Initially thought thermostat 
           had gone bad, control board was bad, new 1 ordered
