Hello All,
Last night the target vacuum rose above 1x10-4 mbar and the valves tripped
closed, so we can't take any beam until we fix the vacuum. It was decided
this morning that we would warm up the target and leave it warm over the
weekend, and replace the o-ring on Monday after some of the radioactivity
has died away.
We won't need any shift crew, including a target operator, over the
weekend. J.P. has begun the process of warming up the target, and the
current TO will stay until J. P. says it is okay for him to leave (which
should be soon). I will remain as RC if you need to contact me (see
below).
--- Status of shifts ---
Monday (May 24th) day shift should be on standby in case the target work
goes quickly; we may at least need a target operator.
Monday (May 24th) swing shift should plan on coming in as usual until
further notice.
--- To go into the hall ---
Please call (757-876-1787) or email (crowder at jlab.org) me before going
into the hall for any work.
Until further notice, to work in the hall a high radiation watch is
needed. A survey will be done in the morning (possibly one this afternoon)
but the rates are so high that they think we might need to have a high
radiation watcher all weekend for anyone who goes into the hall.
PLEASE ARRANGE FOR A HIGH RADIATION WATCHER TO GO INTO THE HALL with you
if you will need an access. The radiation survey map is posted in the
usual place on the window in the counting house. You CANNOT be your own
rad-watcher. Remember that nothing else can be done while serving as a
watcher.
If the status of the high radiation watcher requirement changes I will
make a halog entry about it and circulate an email - until then, please
contact me before going into the hall.
Please contact me (or the next RC - Lorenzo Zana - starting Monday) if you
have any other questions.
Thanks,
Juliette
