  Hall D Staff Meeting, April 13, 2020

Present: Fernando Barbosa, Eugene Chudakov (chair), Mark Dalton, 
Alexandre Deur, Hovanes Egiyan, Sergey Furletov, Mark Ito, Igal Jaegle, 
Keigo Mizutani, Lubomir Pentchev, Patrizia Rossi, Elton Smith, Sascha 
Somov, Simon Taylor, Tim Whitlatch, Beni Zihlmann


    Announcements, Eugene

  * JLab/BNL partnership on EIC moving forward.
  * PHE use is higher than anticipated. Should not be used in place of
    sick or vacation.


    Announcements, Patrizia

  * Accountability exercise last week had same response as previous
    exercises despite remote location of many staff members.
  * LDRD
      o this year: mandatory pre-proposal, due at end of month
      o budget doubled this year


    Technical Staff Work, Tim

  * Encouraged to give technical staff training and task opportunities
  * Scot was given computer, can do scheduling and P&I at home
  * Bobby got multi-factor and can access his computer. Doing 3-D print
    jobs at home, e.g., baffles for DIRC
  * Welding training and practice can be done by those with equipment at
    home.
  * Stephanie busy with design work at home.
  * Patrizia: Will Oren will announce training opportunities for engineers.


    Problems Working Remotely

  * Beni: connection and/or response slow from time to time.
  * Elton: cannot cut and paste from VNC session to local session.
  * Mark: cannot access journals directly from home computer.


    PrimEx Data Processing

  * Sascha: on schedule, second monitoring launch this week
  * Igal: doing quality checks on recent FCAL calibrations. Looking at
    effects with different "rings" of the FCAL.
  * Sascha: progress on luminosity with CCAL
  * Production processing will be done at JLab


    SRC ERR

  * Patrizia: May 7 a candidate date.
  * Sascha: Chris Keith invited to talk on target


    New Proposals


      NPP, Elton

  * Review committee: Barry Ritchie and Joerg Reinhold, expect feedback
    on Thursday.
  * Group meeting once per week, including Jose Goity, Svetlana
    Barkanova, and Rory Miskimen.
  * Elton looking at using AmpTools to estimate sensitivity to signal in
    presence of interfering sigma production.
  * Meeting held this morning: Elton, Ilya Larin, Rory, with Sergey
    Gevorgyan on t-distribution of sigma production
      o Sergey expects same as for single pion angular distribution.
      o He will pass calculations on to Ilya.
  * Beni: started analyzing data from PrimEx monitoring launch for π^0
    π^0 from helium.


      GDH, Alexandre

  * Review committee: Garth Huber and Frank Nerling, they will meet with
    proponents.
  * Wiki page constructed to collect materials.
  * Simulations started, needed to compute backgrounds.
  * Next week Mark D. will present at virtual APS April meeting.


    PAC, Eugene

  * This year, GlueX, JEF, CPP all up for Jeopardy
  * PrimEx and SRC are on tentative schedule
  * Matt Shepherd discussing how to approach jeopardy
  * Elton: CPP a ten-minute talk, NPP a full proposal


    Miscellaneous Items

  * Tim: only new alarm was from CDC gas last Thursday. Alarm level
    adjusted.
  * Tim: design software working well from home
  * Eugene: items arriving at shipping and receiving need inspection,
    discussions on-going with Rolf on how to handle.
  * Status of RAID 3
      o Tim: was still alarming during last walkthrough
      o Sergey: will check on status.
