Hall D Staff Meeting, November 23, 2020
Present: Alexander Austregesilo, Eugene Chudakov (chair), Mark Dalton,
Alexandre Deur, Hovanes Egiyan, Sergey Furletov, Mark Ito, Igal Jaegle,

Announcements, Eugene
* There was a quarantine issue with the machine shop. Resolved now.
* Memo went out about working remotely from a different state.
* Initial budget outlook: looks about the same as last year.
* User count dropped from 1700 to 1600. Number of foreign users went
down. Domestic university users went up a bit.
* Fill out your timesheets daily.
* For computers used at home, make sure to keep property passes
up-to-date.
* EIC Yellow Paper process entering final stages.
o Discussion on including a second detector and ways to fund it.
+ Not part of current DOE plan.
+ Beni: machine design can accommodate two detectors.
o JLab will participate in detector R&D
+ Will bring in local expertise with lead tungstate crystal
calorimeters.
Tasks for Rest of the Year, Tim
* Big one: DIRC tests and experiments
o Take apart optical box, test mirrors
o Schedule on the O-drive
* Tagger window done, hodoscope and microscope re-installed
* Leak in Hall: Tim will look into it
* Coil 3:
o After refurbishment of cold cathode gauge showed measurable leak
rate.
o Not as bad as coils 2 and 4.
o Pumping on it now
Cleaning electronics boards, Beni
* Not all cleaned, but project stopped because of limited space
* Eugene: analysis of dust showed some iron, probably in the form of
iron oxide
Crystals, Sascha
* Almost done measuring dimensions, doing visual inspection
o of 160, 8 still left to check
o better than previous batch, some have coloring
o will likely accept for purchase
* Will touch base with Carl Zorn about measuring transmittance
* Balance of contracted crystals will be sent in a few weeks.
* Josh and Sascha have exercised brazing set-up.
o Will assemble 10 to 20 modules, then go to mass production
* CompCal is open in the TEDF
o Will be meeting with Fernando to finalize electronics
o Refurbishing light monitoring system for CCAL
Measurements with Gas Analyzer, Lubomir
* To be done this year
PMT Replacement, Beni
* one candidate for replacement
* no need to dismount array from forward carriage
* need detailed instructions from Paul Eugenio
DIRC Mirrors, Eugene
* Water leaked between the mirror and the protective glass cover
* Diffusers for the LED system leaked as well
* Alternate geometries for sealing mirrors being considered.
* No measurable degradation in performance.
