Hello all,
The offline software and photon beam working groups, and probably others,
have relied on the ESnet videoconferencing service over the past few years
for conducting our regular meetings. It seems, DOE is bringing that
service down in September. Between now and then we need to work together
to come up with a replacement service that is affordable and works as well
as ESnet. Sorry for the bad news, but at least we have time to work on
finding alternatives.

Dear ECS Customer,
For two decades, ESnet has provided audio, video, and web conferencing
services to researchers funded by DOE's Office of Science. Commercial
solutions have matured significantly in recent years, however, and many
labs and collaborations have found alternative providers to support their
collaboration needs.
After careful analysis, ESnet and its DOE program management have concluded
that audio, video, and web services are no longer within the appropriate
mission scope of ESnet. As a result, we plan to discontinue our
collaboration service offering (known as ECS) on September 30, 2014.
As a result of this change, the ReadyTalk audio/web and ECS video
collaboration services offered by ESnet will stop accepting new
registrations on July 1, 2014.
ESnet will work closely with our customers to provide advice and assistance
for migrating to alternative service providers. In addition, we will
encourage efforts of Labs and virtual organizations to work together in
exploring new options, and will serve as a 'matchmaker' for those efforts.
One such effort is now underway in the HEP community, and we will document
progress on that as it evolves.
ESnet is in the process of identifying transition options for our users,
and working with lab and virtual organization contacts to evaluate them.
Additionally, we are working with University of California Office of the
President (UCOP) to permit individual Labs to transition to standalone
ReadyTalk contracts if they wish.
We will be following up with you in the near future to provide you with
additional information and to ask you to provide information about the
services are you are using and your affiliation. This information will help
us with develop options for collaboration services.
We appreciate your cooperation and hope to work with you closely to ensure
a smooth transition of services.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact ESnet ECS
team at:
ecs-admin at es.net
Best regards,
Patty Giuntoli
