[Halld] Updated Translation Table

Hi Richard,

Documentation is scarce. The SQLite file itself is maintained in the subversion repository along with all of the
related software here:

https://halldsvn.jlab.org/repos/trunk/online/packages/TranslationTable/

You may want to look at the hd_tt_tool.py script and the halld_tt.py python module it uses. The script that
converts from SQLite DB to tt.xml is tt_db2xml.py.

There is a wiki page that needs some updating but gives you some introduction here:

https://halldweb.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/Translation_Table

-David

Hello David,

What is this thing you call "the SQLite DB"? I know of a SQLite export of the CCDB, and I have heard of a SQLite export of RCDB that might be possible. Is this a third SQLite DB?

It sounds like you are describing a re-formatting of the TT xml file contents as a relational database table, and then exporting this table to SQLite? I have never heard of or worked with this relDB rendering of the TT document. As someone who updates the TT record in ccdb from time to time, it sounds like I need to know what you are talking about here. The xml document is the only thing I have ever worked with. Is there a HOWTO on this?

Hi All,

This is a head’s up that I just added a new translation table entry to the CCDB that includes
all of the DIRC channels as provided by Justin. This is significant for a couple of reasons.
One of them being that the DIRC increases the channel count from ~23k to ~37k.

The other is that the procedure used to produce the XML file is somewhat new. It was generated
from the SQLite DB file that has been updated to include run range information. The DB file
was first updated by mining data from the CCDB, then the DIRC channels were added, then
the XML file was generated and inserted into the CCDB. Note that ALL future changes to the TT
should be done in the SQLite DB first and the XML then generated from that. Please contact me
if you need help with this.

Both Justin and I have done some testing and it seems the new TT does not break anything.
It is marked as valid only for runs >=60000 in the CCDB so people generally will not be
affected by it until they start processing files from the upcoming RunPeriod-2019-01 data set.

Thanks to Justin for doing a lot of the heavy lifting on getting all of the DIRC channels into the tt.db

-David
