the above link is to an article about the noise and the temperature 
relation of a detector similar to ours.
the noise does indeed depend exponentially on the temperature, as glen 
remarked.
an article about the FSSR2 mentions, unequivocally, that the temperature 
dependence of the ASIC is minimal
this has been tested in the lab
and so in addition to keeping the ASIC at room temperature, the sensors 
must be kept at or below room temperature, easily achieved by flowing 
dry cold nitrogen over the sensors.
