[PEPPo] Urgent request for information

Dear PEPPo Collaborator,

Scheduling the PEPPo experiment during the 12MSD is a hot topic, in both
the good and bad sense. It is a positive thing in the sense that the
hard work to install PEPPo and successfully defend the PAC proposal has
put a legitimate foot in the door to request this time. It is bad, I
believe, only in the sense that scheduling the experiment during 12MSD
is logistically difficult. A short time ago I presented to the 12MSD
team our beam and clock hour requirements, and now they are seeking to
understand the pros and cons of when (not if!) our experiment is scheduled.

There are likely three options that will be weighed against one another;
a) delaying 12MSD activities at the INJ/NL by 2-3 weeks to allow the
full experiment to occur beginning mid-May, b) postponing the experiment
into the Fall (September/October?) time frame w/ potentially less
constraint on the total number of days/shifts we can run, and c) a
compromise of these two, providing for a short commissioning run (days
to a week) in mid-May, with the balance of the run occurring later in
the shutdown.

Although we are described as a hard working collaboration, we are indeed
small and staffing the experiment is a factor. I realize this is short
notice, but can you please take a moment to send me a brief note
detailing your /unavailability /to participate in the experiment from
May thru December of 2012. This can be teaching conflicts, unchangeable
plans, terms of service/contact that expire, etc. Effectively, your
availability to travel to JLAB for extended period of time and perform
the experiment. In addition, please comment on any other pros/cons
which you believe impact when the experiment might be performed.

You may reply to the entire collaboration list, but at a minimum please
send e-mail to myself and Eric.

Best,
Joe
