[PEPPo] Scheduling the Experiment

Dear PEPPo Collaborator:

Scheduling PEPPo during the 12MSD is no easy task; and there is yet
any firm answer. Discussions are in process to determine opportunities
for us to run, but a critical point before agreeing to a given scenario
is knowing whether we have enough people to staff shifts. We also face
the the issue that while most experiments spend a relatively small
percentage of their time commissioning, ours is significant. It may be
assumed that whenever we are finally scheduled there would be Operations
support. This e-mail is entirely about the scientific support of our
collaboration to do the experiment.

Foremost Eric and I need to know your availability to spend time at
JLAB taking shifts. We are aware of people's expertise and will take
this into account in terms of logistics for various scenarios, however,
it is very likely that most if not all shift takers will become
experienced in many aspects of the experiment. What a great opportunity
not to just be "target operator". :)

Although we do not expect running prior to May 19th, it would be
helpful to know your availability as early as May 1st and running
through July 1st. It would be helpful to us if groups from a given
affiliation provided their list collectively, e.g., a list from Hampton,
Idaho, LPSC, etc. Likewise, we need to know your availability in the
evenings and overnight and during the weekends. I urge you to think
carefully about "availability" because this means your willingness to
participate, be alert, be prepared. Part of this assessment is to
understand that we do not count on people who have, e.g., taught class
all day and then will come work overnight, or are otherwise
overcomitting - we are too small of a group to work that way,
particularly under what might be unusual scheduling.

Sorry for being long - please provide some feedback by next week,
Wednesday February 1st.

Best regards,
Joe
