Subject: [EXTERNAL] PPU weekly update
Regarding PPU progress this week, the initial cavity string was successfully pumped down at our partner lab (JLab) this week. This represents a big milestone in the initial cryomodule fabrication which is scheduled for acceptance testing early next year. In the RF area, the new klystron manufacturing continued at the vendor. The first two units were found to have flaws that required some re-work, but unit three completed its factory acceptance test and units four and five are ready for testing. All of the new RF waveguide loads have been received at SNS, two are under test for final acceptance, and the RFQ/DTL high voltage modulator prototype testing is continuing. All the ring injection area magnet fabrication purchase orders (for FNAL) have been submitted and contracts should be in place soon. The beam power limiting system team has integrated feedback from the recent design review and simplified the digital processing unit. The ring injection dump imaging system design is now complete, having incorporated changes from the recent final design review to improve system capabilities, and manufacturability. In the target area a 2-ton crane was installed in the mercury off-gas treatment room (which will be required for equipment installation) and a new MOTS delay bed was successfully pressure tested at the vendor.
Vaccine signup at ORNL is opening up quickly and I encourage you stay tuned. I’m off to get my second dose this afternoon (in town) and I expect to feel some relief afterwards. Have a great weekend - jg
