EIC Center Announces Fellowship Awards
The Electron-Ion Collider Center at Jefferson Lab has been established to advance and promote the science program of a possible future EIC facility through education, collaboration and outreach. Now, the center has just announced the winners of four fellowships to pursue research related to a proposed EIC. Read more here .
THEORETICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL PHYSICS
In a new paper , the JPAC collaboration has derived and applied finite energy sum rules to study pion photoproduction. The low energy part of the sum rules is evaluated using several state of the art models. Furthermore, a model formulated in terms of a Regge-pole expansion, that respects the sum rules and matches the high-energy behavior of observables, is presented.
ESH&Q
Make Fall Safety a Top Priority
According to the National Safety Council, 47,120 were injured in falls at home and at work badly enough to require days off in 2013. It’s important to note that one does not have to fall from a high level to suffer injuries. Half of all fatal falls in 2013 occurred from 20 feet or lower and 11 percent were from less than 6 feet, according to Injury Facts 2016®. To prevent falls, it is important to plan ahead. Determine if working from a height is absolutely necessary or if there is another way to accomplish the task at hand. If you must work from a height, make sure you are properly trained to use the equipment selected. Set equipment up on level ground. If working outside, check the weather forecast; never work in inclement weather. Maintain three points of contact (e.g. two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand). Wear slip-resistant shoes and don't lean or reach. For more information, see Jefferson Lab ES&H Manual Chapter 6132 Ladder and Scaffold Safety and SAF 307 Ladder Safety Training .
COMPUTING
IT Division Prepares to Roll Out Microsoft Office365
Later this year, the Jefferson Lab IT Division will transition the email, calendar and business productivity software products to the Microsoft Office365 platform. The platform will include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and OneDrive, and it will allow JSA staff members to access the online versions of these products from any computer. Currently, extensive testing is underway to ensure a smooth transition to the new system. More information will be announced as the transition approaches. If you have any questions about the transition, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.
