Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: January 19, 2021

  1.  Thia Keppel
     *   Senior Staff Meeting
        *   https://physdivjlab.org/202MedConOps
           *   Update on resumption of operations
        *   EIC Budget
           *   FY21 final $30M (was $43M, but FY20 was $11M)
           *   Independent cost review started last week
           *   Most of FY21 is OPC
        *   EIC/Accelerator International Agreement meetings have been productive
           *   Detector planning to reach out to potential partners more
           *   NP planning international engagement meeting (no date yet)
        *   Budget
           *   Research budgets have been reduced 3.75% - a problem! Lower than 10 years ago
           *   ML/AI initiative went up, also QIS
           *   Operations reduced 3.75% also, won’t start as proclaimed on current schedule (working on a new schedule now!!) ~$6M
           *   CY2021 just shifted a bit, run up to Christmas
           *   FRIB lower ($5M MOLLER below flat, was ~$6M)
              *   Might affect new hires
        *   COVID cases – steady rise since July
           *   Some up after December, contact cases (mostly family)
        *   Keep appraisals moving!
           *   3 days left!
           *   Promotion meetings starting
           *   Course 30790 “Critical Conversations”, all supervisors must take!
        *   EIC CDR 1,000 pages exactly
        *   Rolf stepping down as AD
           *   Gail D., Jim N., Kent P., Camille, Jianwei, Drew are committee, Bob M. is Chair
           *   10 years accepted to start up 12 GeV (in very good shape)
           *   Come of 12 GeV & EIC too much
           *   Time for a change
           *   Started ~ January 2011
        *   There’s a white paper effort about 12 GeV future starting
  2.  Jessie Butler
     *   Begin relocating electrical panel/equipment near roll up door (FML subcontractor)
     *   Begin clearing Target Group equipment out of the area of the upstream shielded bunker
     *   Continue removing RHRS transfer line (trim snout, cap spectrometer ends, remove brackets)
     *   Install new helium valve in snout
     *   Begin cleanup/removal of old cabling around pivot area
     *   Do hall cleanup and take out trash on Friday
     *   Overall a pretty slow week as we had to make several adjustment with much of the team being out at some point over the past two weeks.
